Trial lessons at the BGGC on Thursday 23rd August

The evening was re-scheduled from 16th August when it was very wet and windy.

The weather  was calm and fairly cloudy. We turned up about 5:30 and after signing in we were escorted across to the far side of the field where the BGGC bus was parked. There were 4 of us from SCSA, Brian Boucher, Bryan Tucker, John Bennett and Tim Cooper and there was another group of people, of which 5 were also having a trial lesson.
The BGGC provided 2 fibreglass gliders and 4 instructors to put us through our paces trying to control the real thing. We each had an aero-tow to approximately 2000 feet  and then flew around in really smooth conditions - no thermals - no slope lift. We each flew for 17 or 18 minutes and all landed safely.
It was really good to be let loose on the controls with an experienced instructor keeping us under control. I was amazed at how sensitive the controls were - needing just very small amounts of elevator and aileron to produce a pronounced effect. My biggest problem was centreing the rudder using the pedals because there was not much feedback - you just had to get both feet out at the same length.
We all had a really good time and spent 15 minutes over a pint discussing the flights in the bar afterwards.
I can really recommend it and we also got vouchers to have further flights in the next 3 months for £30 per aero-tow.
