From David

My FRsky  Taranis arrived this week, I was already using the same software in my Tunrigy TX so I was able to set the mixers to work my Supra and use it in the afternoon

YouTube seams the best place to find help in setting up this transmitter

Try this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HU4U4OUcamM  and

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bNfgFyeXek

To get it working, charge on a dumb 12 volt supply, do not use a smart charger, it may ramp up the voltage. The Taranis has its own built in charger that cuts off when charged.

to get started quickly, select the type of RX used, bind and program the mixers.the long or short pushes will take a bit of getting used to, do not try to understand it all you will hurt your brain.
It will work OK without connecting to a computer and has its own backup for model memories

Calibrate the sticks before flying

read about it at http://rc-soar.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/new-frsky-taranis-spiritual-successor.html

The manual and videos are stored in the TX and can be accessed with a usb connection

It does not have a coloured screen like the Futaba 14Z  but it is £2000 cheaper, this should ruffle a few feathers

 Esoaring

I have slipped back in the BMFA league to 3rd

Hawling esoaring

I had a hard time and would have finished 4th and Cliff 2nd or 3rd  if Cliff had not scored a zero when the motor glitched

The graph shows I only found lift twice, in one round I spent 6 minutes sloping the trees

Slope soaring

Monday

Tuesday

I went to Upton on Severn, a warm day with the lift coming and going

David was doing well with his vintage style model - pictured below

Wednesday

Another pleasant afternoon at Haresfield, small slope.
Peter the Wolf was there when I arrived. He launched the big Fauvel for me as I re-re. maidened it. Finally she flew as it was intended she should fly. Turned in the direction I sent her. Rudder response was good, without ailerons she yawed but went round. with a little aileron she turned smoothly. When the lift was weak though she seemed to bank a lot more in turns. Twice I had to land her in the long grass at the bottom of the slope.

Thursday

A day of strong lift, me George spent nearly  as much time dethermalling as we spent climbing, but I failed to get an hour

Friday

Saturday

Lift was variable but reliable, but the landing was sometimes awkward as the wind went more westerly.  Usual thing - sail round with full brake, still going up, then second time round no lift at all and land short.  No paragliders, just plenty of spectators
