Slope Flying
Monday
Tuesday
There was some great lift about today, I flew from the GMFC field
see http://www.ebley.plus.com/phil/starlight2000-gmfc-20-04-2011.gif
Phil
Photo: my Starlight on a winch
Selsley was pleasant in the evening the wind was NE, but there was plenty of
warm air coming out of the valley.
Wednesday
Another day of big lift, today I went to Minchinhampton common, it was a
little hazy with no distinct clouds to fly against and I had trouble seeing
my model.
We did hand launching, self launching glider, bungee and something new to me
and I think the common: aerotowing. Ken brought along a glider and tug
both fitted with towline releases, I had a go with the glider and found it
very hard to follow the tug
Phil
I flew at Selsley in the evening, thermals had gone and slope lift was
poor
Thursday
Just Phil T F, Mike Broad and myself at Rodborough this pm. Wind was
gentle, mostly ESE occasionally drifting and finally about SSE.
Conditions varied from huge sink to widespread lift, as you would expect
on a hot sunny, thermally day. Strange really as the wings did not want to
fly.
Phil specked his MiniJ out (no doubt we will get an altitude report later)
He followed this by almost landing out on the road below. A cool head and
a steady hand saw him climbing to great heights again. My ProdiJ went fine
but I was a little concerned about loosing control on a couple of
occasions. Was it turbulence or loss of signal? Difficult to say but it
now sports two external whiskers at right angles to each other, whereas
before one antenna was buried below the Rx and servos and the other
external.
Friday
I went to Fish meadow, I struggled to find lift, on several flight I
came down in less than 10 minutes
A good turnout 13 fliers
Saturday
A day of good thermal lift at Minchinhampton
Sunday
A poor morning at Selsley as the wind was a little off the slope
Peter's Vega in the grey mist
Monday
I went to Cam Long Down, wind was 8 MPH square on to the slope

newly listed items

The widow of a former SCSA club member, would like to find good homes
for the following items, with all proceeds going to the British Heart
Foundation.
All items are open to sensible offers (proceeds to charity). Please see
attached photos. They’ve all been stored for at least 3 years, but are
generally in excellent condition.
DB Scout, 56” wingspan – Very nicely built and covered (Solartex?),
doesn’t appear to have been used much and no accident damage. Since the
photo was taken I’ve found the wing struts, so the model is complete
(less radio/engine).
Plan for a Brian Taylor Spitfire IX at 1 ¾” – 1 ft scale. (RM Plan
64). Not much scale detail, so I think it’s more sort of semi scale.
Box of exhausts & motor mounts (3 or 4 of each) all 40 – 60 size?
All these items have to go, so please contact me for more info etc.
Don’t forget, all proceeds are going to charity!

Finally – a “Jim Walker U-Reely” reel. No
idea what this is, but it’s some sort of reel, loaded with strong
thread. Has a thumb brake and a winder handle. I guess it’s for control
line or something? It looks too light . Seem to work well
to be a model towline. It’s about a 5 or 6” diameter reel.

Selection of props, some 3 bladed. Between 8” and 14”,
some used, some new

Retracts – pair of mechanical retracts plus old Fleet (?)

|
Meteor 60 with ED AMC car in original box. WELL used and
currently stripped, but not cleaned, so fairly well gunged up. No
obvious damage.
|
OS40FSR – in original box, looks fairly well used, but
seems to have the lay-up oil again, so it’s nice and free to turn.
Carb is damaged (spigot broken)

Scale model of a “Firecracker” (I think). 51” span,
veneered foam wing, balsa/ply fuz, 1 central flap (+ ailerons). Again
beautifully built and covered in Solarfilm. Fixed undercarriage (not
shown in photo)
|
HP61 FS RC Silverline engine - Collectors item?. In
original box, with instructions etc. Engine seems to have some sort of
lay-up oil in it and is nice and smooth to turn, no obvious rust/damage
etc. Looks like it’s had a little running, but not muc |
Low wing 56” aileron model (blue/yellow model. Veneered
foam wing, balsa/ply fuz, covered in solarfilm, complete (less
radio/engine). Again nicely built and covering is exscellent. Doesn’t
seem to have been used much, fairly heavy and sturdily built. Fixed
undercarriage (not shown in photo)

It seems that the wonderful electric motor that I have been advertising is
just a tad over-priced.
Not knowing the value of these motors it was worth a shot though.
Would you please lower the price to £25 . We might get some interest
then eh?
I also have a Lipo charger to deal with 2,3 or 4 batteries which
looks very neat and tidy.
Should anyone like to make what they think is a fair price offer I'd be
happy.
It's better to have a fellow-modeller using kit than having it clog up my
workshop.
