Conditions were good for the Esoaring comp, I launched into a thermal a buzzard was using in the first round, in the second and third I spotted thermals before launching, but was out flown by Steve in the forth when we all encountered strong sink

In the afternoon we struggled to find lift, but it was good to practice in weak lift

The flat field duration local record stands at 1 hour 9 minutes for this year by Sqeela with his Electric Shadow. on Minchinhampton common from 150 metre launch.
My AVA did a longer flight but was flown by 4 people

This is for hand launched, bungee or one short motor run on a flat field without the use of slope lift

The local height record for this year is held by Chris Bishop 1800 feet attained at Gloucester  MFC 03/06/12

Slope Flying

Is your model a Brick?

Brick throwing competitions are held between the 4 towns of Stroud in July, 5lb  bricks are thrown about 140 feet
to test your model take it to the flat and throw it, if it's a brick it will fall to the ground, if it's not not a brick  the wings will support it and you will be able to fly it round and maybe catch it. see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uadvZsKYYWE

Bricks are OK if you have a gale blowing on to a cliff, the wind blows the fuselage up in the air and the little stubby wings steer it away from the cliff face.

Eyeboy calls my model pencils with wings, but  they are different varying by as much as 3%

 Monday
Modest slope lift on Selsley with the odd weak thermal, I failed to get Tony's Wingmax away and just scratched about in the slope lift

I went  Minchinhampton in the afternoon lift was poor but good practice conditions, Andy's Pike stayed up well landing only a few seconds behind my Supra in several flights.
Andy made new tips for this model, this has stopped it tip stalling and decreased its sink rate

Chris Bishop did better at the Gloucester club with a 41 minute flight, picking up lift at only 100 feet in poor conditions

Tuesday
  Morning
A strong breeze at Haresfield but not much lift, I think there was a little east in it

It was quite wet at Haresfield yesterday afternoon. I managed to get in a 30 min flight with the zagi before visibility through my bottle top lenses brought about the end of play. As I was leaving Andy turned up, but the rain looked pretty well set in by 3pm.

Wednesday

Phil and I flew at Haresfield this afternoon. Strong, strong wind, mega lift and a lovely blue sky.

We watched the rain coming up the valley and were back in our cars before it arrived for real. It was best described as a monsoon, with local flooding.

Thirty minutes later blue skies and sun again.
