Tree hugging and tilting and at windmills Dale Vince now Dale Vince OBE gave a talk at our club 9 years about the wind turbine near Nympsfield just after it was brought into use In 1995, he launched the Renewable Energy Company - since renamed Ecotricity - and by 2000, he had won a Queen's Award for Enterprise. It took endless determination and big battles with planners, grid companies and even the National Trust, he says. Dale was a new age traveller for 10 years and thought of the Lynch Knoll turbine project while while charging his trailer batteries. Ecotricity are planting a forest at Lynch Knoll which is open to the public. The Lynch Knoll wind turbine is small compared to modern turbines producing 500KW at full output. Ecotricity has 30,00 domestic customers and 1000 business customers, at present it has 27megawatt of generating capacity with a further 50MW in the planning stage; not much considering Oldbury produces 400MW, Drax in Yorkshire has a 4,000 MW capacity Our main interest in it is to show the wind direction, it turns clockwise. If you are on Selsley and it is turning anti clockwise you are on the wrong slope. |
